History[]
In Part Seventeen, Arthur reveals that Faroe died some years prior to the events of the story. Their housekeeper, Tess, had requested the evening off but ran a bath for Faroe before leaving and reminded Arthur to check on her in a few minutes. Arthur became engrossed in his work and forgot to do so, and Faroe subsequently drowned.[1] Her loss affected Arthur very deeply.
